Phases of hair growth
There are 4 phases of hair growth2
Anagen Phase or Growing Phase
This is a significant phase in hair growth. In this phase, the cell in the hair bulb starts dividing and results in rapid hair growth. Hair grows about 45cm to 75cm in this phase.
The anagen phase lasts about 2-7 years and determines the length of our hair. During this phase, hair actively grows from its root. Your hair growth depends on the duration of this phase.
The length of hair depends on how long this phase is active. Further, I will explain tips which is given by ancient Ayurveda scripts about increasing the duration of this phase.
Catagen (Transition Phase)
This is the transitional stage or second phase, which lasts about 1 to 3 weeks (average ten days). In this phase, hair follicle usually stops growing and detaches itself from the dermal papilla. This is also called as clubbed hair
Telogen (Resting Phase)
Once the hair detaches from the follicle where it gets nutrition through blood, it enters into the resting phase. The resting phase, or Telogen phase, lasts around three months.
Usually, around 10 to 15% of hair is in this phase. In the telogen phase, even the old hair is in place, new hair starts to grow, and it enters into the growth phase.
Exogen (New Hair Phase)
Once the new hair starts growing, it pushes out the old hair, this phase where shredding of hair happens. On average, around 50 to 160 hair falls in a day.
This is part of the resting phase where the old hair sheds and a new hair continues to grow. Approximately 50 to 150 hairs can fall out daily. This is considered to be normal hair shedding.
How to regrow hair: The Ayurveda and Hair Growth
Ayurveda has a mesmerizing effect on hair health. Traditional ayurvedic hair oils and hair pack not only benefited in hair growth but also helped avoid early greying of hair, scalp problem, and loss of hair. This holistic treatment gets into the root cause of the ailment and solves it.
As per Ayurveda, hair fall happens due to pitta dosha. Excess pitta in the human body causes excess hair fall.
As per the type of body, ie, Vata, pitta & Kabha.
In Ayurveda, hair is also different.
Which is explained below
- Vata-type hair – Healthy Vata hairstyles. It proliferates and appears to be curly, straight, or somewhere in between. Because of its rebellious nature, taming and shaping can also be difficult, as you wish.
- Pitta-type hair – Hair of the kind of pitta – Hair of a healthy type of pitta tends to be moderately thick, soft, and straight. Although it’s easy to style, each strand is generally good.
- Kapha-type hair – Highly thick and full-volume, healthy Kapha-like hair is rough in texture. It usually appears curly. This is typically the most desirable hair type.
Ayurvedic treatment will not help you to change the type of hair as explained above.
However, it can help you to restore the health of your hair as per the body type.
Transforming into styles of Kapha type of hair is not possible for all of us.
Ayurveda helps restore our hair to its natural health and enables us to make the most out of our inherent beauty in the process.
Since hair fall is associated with the pitta dosha problem, it is first essential to recognize a person’s bad eating habits, contributing to the elevation of pitta in their bodies.
The pitta increase can be due to:
- Increased intake of savoury food
- Acid food consumption
